Jim Corsi enters his fourth year as the Sabres goaltending coach. His duties with the team involve working with the Sabres NHL netminders as well as the team’s prospects throughout the minor leagues. The products of Corsi’s teachings have been seen in the development of Martin Biron and Mika Noronen. Noronen was named Minor Pro Prospect of the Year by The Hockey News for the second consecutive year; the only player to ever achieve that honor (Biron won the award in 1999). Jim also worked with Dominik Hasek, who won his sixth Vezina Trophy and the 2001 Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed in the NHL. With Hasek, Biron and Noronen all winning games for the Sabres in 2000-01, Buffalo finished the season with the lowest team goals against average in the league.
Jim brings with him over 20 years of experience as a player, coach, manager and hockey analyst. Previously, he held the position of Goaltending Coach with the Canadian Women’s Team (1997-98), Ottawa University (CIAU) (1997-98), Schwenningen HC (Ger/DEL) (1997-98), St. Michael’s Majors (OHL) (1994-97), McGill University (CIAU) (1992) and Concordia University (CIAU) (1992-present). Corsi is a member of the Concordia University Athletic Hall of Fame in hockey and soccer.
As a professional player, Jim played with Edmonton Oilers and the Minnesota North Stars, as well as Quebec Nordiques of the WHA before going overseas to play international hockey in Europe, Russia, and China from 1980-92. During that time, he was a member of the Italian National Team at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games, as well as representing Italy several times in the World Ice Hockey Championships.
Jim is fluent in English, French, Italian and German. He and his wife Cathy reside in Ile Bizard, Quebec with their two sons Stephen (19) and Danny (16).
